CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the country. The CLEP examinations are offered by the College Board, a non-profit membership organization that provides tests and other educational services for students, schools, and colleges. The heart of CLEP is a series of examinations, each 90 or 120 minutes long, that allow you to demonstrate your knowledge in a wide range of subjects. You can choose from 34 different examinations. The CLEP exams are administered via computer throughout the year.

Students desiring to apply CLEP credit toward a UWF degree should first meet with an Academic Advisor and verify eligibility to earn possible UWF credit prior to registering for an exam. You may view the credit awarded for CLEP in the Undergraduate Catalog. The test fee is $95.00 for each CLEP exam, plus a $25.00 UWF service fee per test date.

Note: Effective July 1, 2025, the new CLEP exam fee will be $97. The current $95 fee will still apply to all exams purchased through June 30, 2025.

Registration Steps

1. Complete the CLEP registration form.

2. The test fee is $95.00 for each CLEP exam which is paid directly to CLEP at the time of registration. Register for a CLEP Exam

3. Pay the $25 test administration fee by visiting the Cashier's Office or paying online.

4. Email your receipt to testing@uwf.edu.

5. On the day of the exam, bring the CLEP Registration Ticket and government-issued photo ID with you. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow for check-in procedures.

UWF is a fully-funded CLEP testing site. At fully funded testing sites, eligible participants, including active duty service members, eligible spouses, and some civil service employees, will not have any out-of-pocket expenses. The exam and administrative fees are funded by DANTES (one attempt per exam). For more information about eligibility and exam registration, please visit College Board.

NOTE: UWF students should verify accelerated credit policies/limits with their academic advisor.

Students can prepare for CLEP exams by taking free online courses from Modern States Education Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to making high-quality college education free of cost and accessible to everyone.

Modern States offers 32 free online courses that prepare learners for taking CLEP exams. Learners who complete a Modern States course and practice questions receive a voucher to cover the cost of a CLEP exam (while funding lasts).

**UWF Students** Prior to taking this exam please speak with your academic advisor. Successful scoring on the exam indicates proficiency only to potentially satisfy the foreign language requirement. No college credit will be awarded.
