The Information Technology Services (ITS) Help Desk provides all UWF students, faculty, and staff with professional technical assistance for supported software, hardware, and services. This is accomplished by providing an efficient support center that acts as a single point of contact for UWF information technology.
McAfee antivirus software is available free of charge for UWF faculty, staff, and student home computers . New computers often come with antivirus software already installed; however, this is typically a trial version and will stop updating after several months. Because new viruses come out every day, old antivirus software cannot keep your computer protected. In contrast, the UWF version will continue to update so that it can detect and remove new viruses. Good antivirus software is essential to protect your PC. Download McAfee from the Software tab in Argus.
Microsoft Visio 2007 has been added to UWF’s Microsoft Campus Agreement. Visio is a diagramming application that is used to draw organizational and flow charts. If you would like to have Visio installed on your campus computer, contact your Local Support Provider or the ITS Help Desk. Faculty and staff may also purchase Visio 2007 for work-at-home use from the Software tab in Argus.
Mac OS X Leopard is now available to faculty and staff for installation on university-owned computers. The new OS requires an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor and 512MB of memory. Among Leopard’s over 300 new features are improved backup and file sharing functionality, enhancements to the Safari browser, and a Spaces utility to group application windows and reduce desktop clutter. If you are interested in having the new OS installed on your Mac, contact your Local Support Provider or the ITS Help Desk.
