Tuition Waivers

There are a variety of tuition waivers available to graduate students. Keep in mind that all criteria must be met throughout your graduate studies in order to continue using any of these waivers. Exclusions or other criteria may apply, please contact the Graduate School for details.

In-State Tuition Remission for Graduate Assistants

To qualify for in-state tuition remission, a graduate student must be awarded a graduate assistantship (GA). Graduate assistants are eligible for the in-state tuition remission if they are:

  • Matriculated in a UWF graduate degree program.
  • Appointed as a graduate assistant, graduate research assistant, or graduate teaching assistant at a .25 FTE or greater.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 graduate level credits during the Fall/Spring semester in which they are appointed as a graduate assistant. For summer GA appointments, enrollment in at least 3 graduate level credits is required.
  • Graduate assistants at the thesis/dissertation stage of their programs must maintain continuous enrollment by registering for at least one thesis/dissertation hour each semester to qualify for the out-of-state waiver.

These tuition remissions apply only to a portion of in-state tuition. The student is still responsible for the remaining balance of tuition and fees. However, the student may also be eligible for the out-of-state tuition waivers. In-state tuition remission is processed through the student's academic department.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers for Graduate Assistants

  • Graduate assistants at the thesis/dissertation stage of their programs must maintain continuous enrollment by registering for at least one thesis/dissertation hour each semester to qualify for the out-of-state waiver.

These waivers apply only to out-of-state tuition. The student is still responsible for in-state tuition and fees. However, the student may also be eligible for in-state tuition remission. Out-of-state tuition waivers are processed through the student's academic department.
