Since 1973, UWF Forensics has provided students opportunities to train, compete, and grow in the areas of public speaking, oral interpretation of literature, limited preparation speaking and debate. Now known as the Speech and Debate Team, UWF has a rich tradition of excellence in competition. Our team has won a national championship, as well as numerous state, regional, and national awards. The UWF squad travels throughout the United States competing against hundreds of colleges and universities.
The strength and substance of the UWF Speech and Debate program exists within our emphasis on ambassadorship. We believe that students need to learn to engage the community as a citizen, active advocate, and critic. UWF Speech and Debate provides a magnificent opportunity for students to explore and learn about these aspects of their role in the world.
Undergraduate students from all majors are welcome to engage this co-curricular experience. The UWF Speech and Debate Program is a way for students to gain valuable training and study in public speaking, performance studies, and argumentation outside of the classroom.
If you are interested in being a part of the Speech and Debate Team contact Dr. Tressa Kelly, Director of Individual Events at tkelly1@uwf.edu or call the Speech and Debate Team’s office at 474.3365. The team is housed in the Department of Communication Arts in building 36, room 124.
