University of West Florida Honor Band

The UWF Honor Band offers a premier musical experience for high school students in the Florida Panhandle and surrounding areas.


Fourth Annual UWF Honor Band

Thank you for your interest in the University of West Florida 2024 Honor Band! The purpose of the UWF Honor Band is to provide a premier musical experience for students in the Panhandle and surrounding region. During the UWF honor band weekend, students will rehearse and perform with talented high school musicians, collaborate with world class conductors, and experience all that UWF and Pensacola has to offer! 


Our guest conductor for the 2024 UWF High School Honor Band will be Dr. Wesley Brodnax, director of bands at the University of Northern Colorado.

There is no fee to audition. The cost to participate in the festival if selected is $50 per student.

The fee includes a t-shirt and one meal on Friday evening.

Auditions are open to all students enrolled in a high school band program grades 9-12. All students are required to fill out the 2023-2024 Honor Band Audition Form. This same form is also where students will submit their audio.

Audition Materials are due by Friday, December 8, 2023

All auditions must include: 

  • Student stating their name and school at the beginning of the recording
  • Two major scales of the player’s choice (2-3 octaves): in sixteenth notes no slower than = 60
  • Chromatic scale of the player’s choice: at least two octaves in eighth notes, = 80
  • All-State audition 2023 OR 1 faster/technical etude + 1 slower/lyrical etude

Directors will receive a list of students selected for UWF Honor Band and all students will be notified by January 9, 2024. Chair placement within the ensemble will be based on the initial audition. Music for the festival will be emailed to the students by the end of January.

If selected for the Honor Band, students will be expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and activities, including attending the Friday evening concert presented by UWF instrumental ensembles. Parents are responsible for transportation, lodging and supervision at all other times during the Honor Band weekend.

Study Music at UWF

The Dr. Grier Williams School of Music provides students with a high quality, personalized, undergraduate education for careers in the fields of music performance and music education. Admittance to our programs is by audition only.

The program offers studies in Music Performance, Music Education or Arts Administration. Students may also participate in one of the department's many ensembles.
