Presidio Isla de Santa Rosa (1722-1752) was located on a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Pensacola Bay. During its history the presidio was impacted by several major storms or hurricanes. As a result, this site offers an excellent opportunity to study material choices, including adherence or divergence from Hispanic ideals among different socio-economic groups on the periphery of Spain's empire. In order to address this topic, Santa Rosa's demographics were examined, a settlement model was developed that takes into account the site 's unique site formation processes, and the avail ability of goods was examined at multiple scales.
