Brenda Groat

Biography

Brenda has been part of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) for over 15 years and cumulative time at UWF has been over 25 years working in various departments prior to joining OIA in March 2007: Nursing/Medical Technology, Whitman Center, Political Science (includes Public Administration, Pre Law, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies,and International Studies), and Student Success Programs (includes TRiO/Student Support, Learning Center, College Reach-Out Program, and Student Success). 


She is a current member of the Sick Leave Pool and in the past has served as a member, treasurer and buildings 13 & 18 representative of the Staff Senate. She also has the institutional knowledge and skills obtained during her tenure at UWF as well as experience with federal and state contracts. Prior to joining UWF, experience and knowledge of positions held in the legal/criminal justice fields: State of Florida Attorney’s (Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties), criminal and business lawyers. She has appreciation of the diverse populations represented here and understands the challenges in adjusting to cultural differences – be patient and listen.


Brenda holds Certificate of Completions in Secretarial Science-Legal from Pensacola State College and National Association of Legal Secretaries and has taken additional college/university level courses. Her interests are to assist with the Campus Cat feeding of Abbey, International’s resident cat, reading books on various topics, gardening, shopping, learning about other cultures through International films with subtitles and books, and enjoy going to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg to see the shows and scenery especially at Christmas time.
