Our Mission Statements


International Affairs

The mission of the International Affairs at the University of West Florida is to foster a climate of inclusive excellence in today’s global society. The office encourages greater understanding of self and others for students, faculty, staff and the greater community through academic and cultural programming, as well as support services.

Intensive English Program

The mission of the University of West Florida’s Intensive English Program (IEP) is to provide English as a second language instruction to foreign and domestic students seeking to improve their English skills for academic, professional, and personal development. In conjunction with English classes, the IEP offers student support services, including cultural immersion activities, tutoring, and classes for non-native English speakers enrolled at UWF.

International Programs

The mission of International Programs at the University of West Florida is to provide advice, counsel, and support services to international students and scholars concerning federal immigration regulations and University policies. International Programs is also charged with furthering personal and academic development of the campus community through the advancement of multicultural competency educational programs, sponsoring intercultural experiences, and promoting the development of global leaders through international partnerships.

Study Abroad Services

The mission of Study Abroad Services at the University of West Florida is to provide access to international educational experiences for students and faculty at UWF and across the country. Study Abroad programs are academically challenging, professionally relevant, and personally engaging. They are designed to enhance the development of multicultural competencies both domestically and abroad.  

Center for Asian Studies

The mission of the Center for Asian Studies at UWF is to develop and support academic programs and activities that enhance the understanding of Asian societies, cultures, current topics, and languages. The Center sponsors programs and activities designed to encourage UWF students, faculty and the greater Florida community to connect and engage with Asia in an increasingly internationally connected society.

Japan House

The mission of the Japan House at the University of West Florida is to offer Japanese related traditional and modern cultural programs, such as the tea ceremony, origami, bonsai, meditation and Japanese gardening. 

Florida-Japan Linkage Institute

The mission of the Florida-Japan Linkage Institute at the University of West Florida is to assist in the development of stronger economic, cultural, educational, and social ties between Florida and Japan through the promotion of expanded public and private dialogue on cooperative research and technical assistance activities, increased bilateral commerce, student and faculty exchange, cultural exchange, and the enhancement of language training skills between the postsecondary institutions in Florida and those in Japan.  

Florida-China Linkage Institute

The mission of the Florida-China Linkage Institute at the University of West Florida is to assist in the development of stronger economic, cultural, educational, and social ties between Florida and China through the promotion of expanded public and private dialogue on cooperative research and technical assistance activities, increased bilateral commerce, student and faculty exchange, cultural exchange, and the enhancement of language training skills between the postsecondary institutions in Florida and those in China.
