Cooperative education programs are multi-semester experiences that are always for course credit and always paid.


Types of Cooperative Education

Students may choose from two types of co-ops: parallel or alternating.

Parallel

A parallel co-op student works and attends school at least three semesters in a row, averaging 15-25 hours a week at work and 9-12 academic credits.

Alternating

An alternating co-op student alternates between workplace and school semester by semester, working 40 hours a week during work terms and going to school full time during academic terms.

Job Description and Qualifications: Analysis and formulation of program design of major application systems of data processing. Confers with Deputies to formulate statements of objectives, designs, solutions and develops effective programs. Co-Op will gain practical work experience to augment their education and career preparation. During the work experience, the Co-Op will be exposed to the interpersonal relationships a job requires, both with co-workers and supervisors, that are essential in obtaining a successful, satisfying career. Working as a Co-Op, you will be primarily responsible for assisting with programming from technical design phase to the operational phase. Co-Op will be supervised by full-time professional project manager and mentored through the duration of their experience.

Essential Job Functions: Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions. ▪ Assists or develops new or modifies systems to be effective, logical, well-structured and maintainable to solve identified problems;

  • Assists or establishes system functional requirements; with supervisory approval
  • Assists in producing accurate development plans and projects status and completion schedules
  • Develops manuals and written documentation to communicate system procedures
  • Analyzes, designs, codes, tests, debugs, maintains, documents, and implements programs and system
  • Reviews and submits recommendations for improvements to systems and has the ability to implement
  • Provides written and oral review reports of activities to Supervisor
  • Performs related duties as required.

Housing Stipend: Co-op will receive a housing stipend for the duration of the co-op from January-May.

Additional Information: Co-op will receive a signing bonus upon starting the co-op. Participating in the co-op does not guarantee employment post-graduation, but co-op students are considered if an opportunity becomes available.
