Temporary Accommodations
Temporary accommodations are available for students experiencing short-term medical conditions, injuries, or illnesses that significantly impact academic participation. Temporary accommodations are generally approved for one semester and are intended to address conditions that are expected to improve or resolve over time.
Qualifying Conditions may include:
- Temporary injuries (e.g., broken bones, sprains, or other mobility-limiting injuries)
- Recovery from surgery or hospitalization
- Pregnancy-related medical conditions
- Short-term illnesses or medical conditions
Accommodations are determined on an individual basis and depend on the student's documented functional limitations.
Examples may include:
- Testing accommodations
- Temporary note-taking support
- Classroom accommodations
- Assistive technology

Documentation Requirements
- Documentation Requirements
- Provided by a qualified medical professional on official letterhead.
- Includes the diagnosis or medical condition.
- Specifies the expected duration of the condition or anticipated end date for accommodations.
- Includes the provider's signature, credentials, and license/certification number.
Title XI and Pregnancy
Students who are pregnant or experiencing pregnancy-related conditions should first contact UWF Title IX Programs to discuss available support and resources. After meeting with Title IX, students who may need disability-related academic accommodations will be referred to Student Accessibility Resources (SAR) to complete the accommodation request process.
Who can apply for temporary accommodations?
Any UWF student with a temporary injury, illness, medical condition or recovery from surgery that significantly impacts the student’s ability to participate in their academic courses may be eligible for temporary accommodations.
Can I request temporary accommodations in advance?
Yes. If you know you will need accommodations due to a scheduled surgery or other planned medical treatment, we encourage you to submit your request as early as possible. Early requests allow Student Accessibility Resources (SAR) time to review your documentation and coordinate approved accommodations before they are needed.
How long do temporary accommodations last?
Temporary accommodations are typically approved for one semester or the expected duration of your condition. If your condition continues beyond the approved timeframe, you may submit updated medical documentation for review to determine if an extension is appropriate.
