Biography
Dr. Elizabeth M. Bemiss, an Associate Professor in Literacy Education, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy and reading as well as graduate research courses.
Bemiss received both a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy and a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Qualitative Research from the University of South Carolina in 2016.
An educator for more than 20 years, she is noted for her research on literacy practices for teacher preparation, bridging coursework and field work for pre-service teachers, and children’s and adult literature. Publications featuring her work include Teaching and Teacher Education, Literacy Practice and Research, and others.
Bemiss has presented research at national and international literacy research conferences on literacy practices for teacher preparation In addition, Bemiss, a former elementary teacher, collaborates with local educators and local early literacy initiatives to provide hands-on experiences for pre-service teachers to engage in literacy and reading instruction with young children.
Degrees & Institutions
Bemiss obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education from Winthrop University and a M.Ed. in English Education from the University of Georgia before she earned a Certificate of Graduate Studies and a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy from the University of South Carolina.
