The Department of Instructional Design and Technology is comprised of faculty and staff who support the mission of the School of Education through teaching, scholarly activities, and service. To fulfill this mission, the department focuses on developing synergy between academic innovation and applied development, as well as a strong research agenda to support the preparation of empowered professionals who serve as educational leaders.
Our Mission
The mission of the Department of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) is to prepare education, training, military, healthcare, and business and industry professionals to solve complex organizational problems through the application of instructional, non-instructional and/or technology-based solutions.
To meet the preparation mission, a strong teaching focus prepares our students for their careers with a solid educational foundation, applicable to multiple career paths.
The University of West Florida is a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). UWF draws upon CPED-informed practices that support rigorous, applied doctoral education, including the Dissertation in Practice, scholarly inquiry, problems of practice, and continuous improvement. UWF's doctoral programs are designed and administered in accordance with University policy and applicable state and federal requirements.
