Performance Evaluations

The University of West Florida is committed to employee development through the utilization of employee evaluation programs. This program is used to acknowledge performance, to communicate performance effectiveness, to aid in improving performance in assigned duties, and to promote career enhancement. Employees shall be provided with a current position description and a list of goals, objectives, and/or standards at the time of appointment to their position.

The review period for Annual Performance Evaluations is July through June. Objectives for the next year are outlined during the performance appraisal process. Employees and managers will have until September 30 each year to submit evaluations.

UWF has three types of evaluations:

  • Position Orientation: All University Work Force staff employees shall be evaluated at the end of their position orientation year.
  • Annual: Employees shall be evaluated annually in July by their immediate supervisor.
  • Abbreviated: Initiated for each employee who finishes their Position Orientation Year between July and December of each fiscal year.
  • Special: Must be initiated when an employee's performance is at a level of Below or Needs Improvement. It may also be initiated whenever the immediate supervisor determines that the employee is not meeting standards, goals, or objectives set for the position.

If you have any questions regarding annual or position orientation evaluations, please contact the Employee Engagement Coordinator at 850.474.2292.

Information for Supervisors

Per University Policy HR-17.03-09/14, supervisors are required to provide a newly-hired employee a position description and a list of goals (objectives) at the time of appointment. Supervisors are also required to complete the Position Orientation Evaluation for the employee by the end of the employee’s first anniversary date.

Supervisors should check-in regularly with the employee to provide effective performance feedback (i.e., how the employee’s performance is meeting objectives, how to improve, etc.). Supervisors who have access to the PageUp Recruitment Dashboard will find two Excel spreadsheets under Performance Management which may be used for supervisor and non-supervisor performance feedback (use of this resource is optional). Supervisors who do not have a recruitment dashboard may request the same resources by contacting Human Resources. These Excel resources may be used to regularly provide performance feedback, and may be saved and uploaded into a review as documented feedback.

After an employee’s position orientation year is complete, an additional review will auto-generate for the employee on July 1 following the end of the position orientation evaluation.
