Biography

Dr. Jeff McGuirk, a Visiting Assistant Professor of electrical and computer engineering, served in the United States Air Force for 21 years as a developmental engineer.  He worked on various projects including ways to reduce firing energies in explosive initiation trains, increasing functionality and reliability on a global communication system, and developing exotic materials for use on aircraft.

He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering specializing in electromagnetics from the Air Force Institute of Technology, an M.S. in electrical engineering from Iowa State University, and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy.  His research interests include material characterization using electromagnetic waves and the design and application of metamaterials.

Prior to coming to the University of West Florida, Dr. McGuirk taught for seven years at the United States Air Force Academy, where he was the Deputy Head of the department of electrical and computer engineering.  He also taught for two years at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where he taught courses and developed the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering's mechetronics course sequence.
