Dr. Lakshmi Prayaga

Dr. Lakshmi Prayaga, an Associate Professor, conducts research that focuses on applications for technology in education, management and training. The technology includes robotics, augmented reality, 3D printing, data visualizations and analytics. The areas of research mesh well with Prayaga’s work as an Associate Professor of Instructional, Workforce and Applied Technologies.

She has co-authored books on robotics, Android App development, beginning game programming, programming the web with ColdFusion and XHMTL, and using game programming to teach computer science concepts. Her work also has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications including International Journal of Gaming and Computer-Mediated Simulations, Bulletin of Applied Computing and Information Technology and the Journal of Educational Technology, among others. Prayaga’s research seeks ways to use technology to improve comprehension and develop cognitive skills. Her work includes a tele-robotics platform that makes robotics accessible to students of all ages and eliminates the need for expensive infrastructure. Prayaga also is interested in social media data visualizations.

She teaches graduate-level courses on Information Engineering technology, Exploring the Internet, Web Server Technologies, Game Programming 2 (3D Game Studio) and other classes, most of which she designed herself. She has five degrees: An Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and a M.S. in Software Engineering, both from UWF; a MBA from Alabama A&M University; a M.A. in Philosophy from Bangalore University, India; and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Osmania University, India.
