Guttmann Research Lab
We focus on cutting-edge research in Alzheimer's, Cancer, and (for fun) a Spider Silk Synthesis project with dedicated student-driven projects. A place where neuroscience meets innovation for a healthier future - decoding the brain to fight Alzheimer’s and empower caregivers.
Let's Explore
Welcome to the Guttmann Research Lab at the University of West Florida, where we lead cutting-edge neuroscience research to unlock the brain’s mysteries and combat neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. Our work focuses on understanding learning, memory, and dementia at the molecular level. The lab is known for identifying calpain cleavage sites in key proteins tied to cognition and neurodegeneration, and today, we’re using phage-display technology to develop biomarkers for early Alzheimer’s detection and peptide-based therapeutics for diseases including cancer.
Beyond the lab bench, we collaborate with robotics and computer science experts to create innovative tools like robotic pets, easing the burden on caregivers. Our mission is to advance neuroscience, improve diagnostics and treatments, and enhance quality of life for patients and caregivers.
In addition, the Guttmann Lab is also a training ground for the next generation of scientists, offering students hands-on research opportunities. Explore our work and see how we’re making a difference!
