Athletic Communications
UWF Student Athlete Handbook athletic communications information.
Table of Contents
The primary role of the UWF Athletics Communications office is to promote and publicize the teams and student-athletes through public relations, social media, creative content and broadcast. The office serves as a liaison between student-athletes and the media.
Interview Policies
All interview requests should be directed to a member in the Athletic Communications Office. Do not agree to conduct an interview without prior approval.
As a student-athlete at UWF, you have a responsibility to work positively with outside media outlets. Building good working relationships with the media helps enhance your student-athlete experience and shines a positive light on the institution. Each student-athlete is a spokesperson for the University.
When conducting an interview, you are in control. You do not need to answer questions that make you uncomfortable. Politely declining or giving no comment on a challenging question is an acceptable answer. Additionally, directing your answers back to a positive aspect of your team is a good starting point when answering questions.
Social Media
The use of your personal social media can be a useful tool in helping build your brand and highlighting your accomplishments as a student-athlete. Social media should be used wisely as anything you post can be made public once it is posted. If you are second-guessing making a post, it is better to avoid making that post.
UWF Athletics will not tolerate inappropriate, disrespectful or derogatory comments or actions posted online.
