Please drop off nonperishable donations at John Hopkins Hall (Building 18, Room 150B, Dean of Students Office).
Best-By Guidance
We follow USDA guidelines for food storage. We accept food items past the best-by dates. If you prefer food that hasn't passed the best-by date, please check the food items you are taking.
Best-by is about quality, not safety. The food will be safe to eat after this date, but it may not be at its best. Its flavor and texture might not be as good.
USDA Guidelines
Canned foods are safe indefinitely as long as they are not exposed to freezing temperatures, or temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. If the cans look OK, they are safe to use. Discard cans that are dented, rusted or swollen. High-acid canned food (tomatoes, fruits) will keep their best quality for 12-18 months past the best-by date; low-acid canned food (meats, vegetables) for two to five years past the best-by date.
