General Education Curriculum

The General Education curriculum consists of 36 semester hours shared across the areas of communication, mathematics, social sciences, the humanities, and natural sciences. The curriculum includes three requirements: Florida Common Core, UWF Breadth Requirement, and General Education Electives.

General Education Requirements

*Effective Fall 2024

I. Florida Common Core (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

ENC1101: English Composition I*  

College-Level Communication course; the minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

MAC1105: College Algebra
MAC1105C: College Algebra with Lab  
MAC2311: Analytic Geometry and Calculus I
MGF1130: Mathematical Thinking
STA2023: Elements of Statistics

 All General Education Math courses fulfill the College-Level Computation requirement. The minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

II. UWF Breadth Requirement (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

ENC1102: English Composition II*  

College-Level Communication course; the minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core Mathematics requirement or:

MAC1114: Trigonometry
MAC1140: Precalculus Algebra
MAC1147: Precalculus with Trigonometry
MAC2233: Calculus with Business Applications
MAC2312: Analytic Geometry and Calculus II
MGF1131: Mathematics in Context
STA2360: Introduction to Data Science

However, the same Math course cannot simultaneously fulfill Florida Common Core and UWF Breadth requirements.

All General Education Math courses fulfill the College-Level Computation requirement. The minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core Natural Sciences requirement or:

ANT2511: Biological Anthropology
AST2037: Life in the Universe
BOT2010: General Botany (L)
BSC1050: Fundamentals of Ecology
BSC1086: Anatomy & Physiology II
BSC2011: Biology II (L)
BSC2311: Intro to Oceanography and Marine Biology
CGS2020: Into to Machine Learning
CHM2046: General Chemistry II
CIS2530: Intro to Cybersecurity
IDH1043: Honors Core: Natural Science*
MCB1000: Fundamentals of Microbiology
PHC2082: Informatics and Your Health
PHY2049: Calculus Based Physics II
PHY2054: Algebra-Based Physics II

However, the same Natural Sciences course cannot simultaneously fulfill Florida Common Core, UWF Breadth, and General Education Electives requirements.

(L) Must be taken with lab

College-Level Communication course; the minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

General Education Electives (6sh)

Choose one additional course from two of the five areas of Communication, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core or UWF Breadth Requirements.
