General Education Curriculum

The General Education curriculum consists of 36 semester hours shared across the areas of communication, mathematics, social sciences, the humanities, and natural sciences. The curriculum includes three requirements: Florida Common Core, UWF Breadth Requirement, and General Education Electives.

General Education Requirements

*Effective Fall 2024

I. Florida Common Core (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

ENC 1101: English Composition I*


*College-Level Communication course; the minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

II. UWF Breadth Requirement (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

ENC 1102: English Composition II*


*College-Level Communication course; the minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core Mathematics requirement or:

MAC 1114: Trigonometry

MAC 1140: Precalculus Algebra

MAC 1147: Precalculus with Trigonometry

MAC 2233: Calculus with Business Applications

MAC 2312: Analytic Geometry and Calculus II

MGF 1131: Mathematics in Context

STA 2360: Introduction to Data Science

However, the same Math course cannot simultaneously fulfill Florida Common Core and UWF Breadth requirements.


All General Education Math courses fulfill the College-Level Computation requirement. The minimum grade requirement for College-Level courses is C.

Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core Natural Sciences requirement or:

ANT 2511: Biological Anthropology

AST 2037: Life in the Universe

BOT 2010: General Botany (L)

BSC 1050: Fundamentals of Ecology

BSC 1086: Anatomy & Physiology II

BSC 2011: Biology II (L)

BSC 2311: Intro to Oceanography and Marine Biology

CGS 2020: Into to Machine Learning

CHM 2046: General Chemistry II

CIS 2530: Intro to Cybersecurity

IDH 1043: Honors Core: Natural Science*

MCB 1000: Fundamentals of Microbiology

PHC 2082: Informatics and Your Health

PHY 2049: Calculus Based Physics II

PHY 2054: Algebra-Based Physics II

However, the same Natural Sciences course cannot simultaneously fulfill Florida Common Core, UWF Breadth, and General Education Electives requirements.

(L) Must be taken with lab

General Education Electives (6 sh)

Choose one additional course from two of the five areas of Communication, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core or UWF Breadth Requirements.
