The Bachelor of Arts program in psychology is one of the most popular undergraduate degrees at the University of West Florida with over 400 majors. Our program provides an excellent background for study in medicine, law, and political science and a solid foundation for our graduate programs.

Requirements

The undergraduate degree requires a minimum of 35 upper/lower division hours in psychology which consists of 22 hours of "core" psychology courses (selected form 7 basic areas) and 12 electives. Also, students need to take courses in statistics, general psychology, biology/zoology, and a lower division Psychology elective. Within the undergraduate program, there is a certification in Human Resource Management that is available to interested students.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology is excellent preparation for work in the human services field or business. It is also an excellent background for students who plan further study in such fields as medicine, law, and political science. In addition to learning about human development and behavior, psychology majors develop skills in communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal interactions. Psychology majors may choose classes from a variety of fields to provide a broad background in other sciences, the liberal arts, computing, or business.

Or, students may choose to focus in another area by selecting a minor in another field. Minors which typically match well with a psychology major include biology/zoology, sociology, social work, or computer science.
