Soprano Sheila Murphy holds a Bachelor degree in Vocal Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and both a Master and Doctor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she studied with Costanza Cuccaro. Dr. Murphy began her teaching career as an Associate Instructor of voice at Indiana University where she taught for four years. In her final year of studies at Indiana University, she oversaw the elective voice program as Secondary Voice Coordinator, supervising the teaching of 20 associate advisors and the studies of over 200 elective voice students per semester.
In the summer of 2008, Dr. Murphy was a member of the distinguished apprentice artist program at Chautauqua Opera. She has also performed with Nevada Opera, Lake George Opera and Pensacola Opera. Roles include Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Costance (Les Dialogues des Carmélites), Blonda (Abduction from the Seraglio), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Despina (Cosí fan tutte), Monica (The Medium), Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte).Equally comfortable in the classics of musical theater and pops, Dr. Murphy has also performed the role of Johanna (Sweeney Todd) in addition to performing on pops concerts with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In her free time she enjoys the beautiful weather in her native Florida and the company of her loving family.
