Why Study Maritime Studies at UWF?

Understanding and managing maritime resources is becoming increasingly important, requiring a wide range of knowledge and practical skills.

Of the small number of maritime studies programs in the U.S., none are as diverse and widely appealing as UWF's. Our program combines focus and flexibility, letting you customize your degree.

You can choose between multiple hands-on experiences, including internships, practicums or overseas field studies. Or you can choose to complete a structured field experience utilizing professional field methods.

We offer the degree face-to-face and fully online.

What You Will Learn

Throughout your studies, you will gain the knowledge you need to participate in—and contribute to—our growing understanding and management of maritime environments.

This interdisciplinary program integrates five primary fields of study: anthropology and archaeology, environmental studies, history, government and biology.

You will supplement your studies with elective courses from a wide range of disciplines, such as art history, literature, law, political science and leisure.

As a maritime studies major, you will have opportunities for professional development with UWF's Archaeology Institute, the Florida Public Archaeology Network and Marine Services Center.

A minor in maritime studies provides a general background in the subject, preparing you for employment in related fields, including biology, environmental studies and government.

UWF programs offered at the Pensacola campus or UWF Emerald Coast may require online courses. Discuss the program requirements and planning with your academic advisor.
