Confronting Culture: A Study Abroad to Ghana

May 15-26, 2024

Spend 12 days traveling with UWF students and faculty/staff as you explore the cities of Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast in Ghana! See the sights, learn about the history, and experience the culture in person as you understand more about your own culture while taking GEO3421 Cultural Geography that counts towards your General Education requirements.

We’ve got everything planned! For $6130 we provide a fully guided itinerary that includes all flights, hotels, in-country transportation, breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, and admission to all events and destinations.

Confronting Culture Required Course:

  • GEO3421 Cultural Geography

Confronting Culture Highlights Include:

  • Accra Tours and Cultural Experiences – W.E.B. Dubois Center, National Museum of Ghana, University of Ghana, Traditional Drumming and Dance Lessons
  • Kumasi Tours and Cultural Experiences – Bonwire Kente Cloth Weaving Village, Ntonso Adinkra Symbol village and Ahwiaa Woodcarving village, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Multi-Day Engagements with local startups
  • Cape Coast Tours and Cultural Experiences – River Heritage Site Visit at Assin Manso, Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park and Canopy Walk Way, Visit to a Stingless Bees Center

Why Study Abroad?

  1. All majors can take GEO3421 Cultural Geography! This course is a General Education course that counts towards all majors.
  2. This course counts towards your Summer term course requirement! All students entering a university in the State University System with fewer than 60 semester hours of credit must complete at least nine credits in the Summer term. Why not take three of these credits overseas?
  3. This course can fulfill the Multicultural Course requirement! All students pursuing a bachelor's degree are required to complete at least one course that explores one or more of the dimensions of another culture (language, religion, socio-economic structures, etc.).
  4. Talk to your Academic Advisor! It’s important to plan your study abroad courses at the same time you register for Fall courses. Ask your advisor to save this course for Summer.

Program Fee Includes

  • Roundtrip Airfare
  • 11 Nights of Accommodation
  • All program academic excursions and activities, entrance to sites and museums
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day
  • Group organized transportation within the program
  • On-site program support from UWF faculty and staff

Program Fee Does Not Include

Course tuition, pre-departure expenses such as passports, visa fees, health immunizations and/or vaccinations, and personal spending money.


Housing and Meals

All program participants stay together in accommodation arranged by the program. Typical accommodations are hotels and/or guest houses. All meals are provided by the program.
