A
Note from the Dean...
Greetings students, faculty, staff, and community
friends. As we move beyond mid-terms and into the holiday season, I
hope you all are beginning to plan for next year and its multitude of
possibilities.
Information technology jobs are among the top high-growth occupations
in Northwest Florida at a rate of 6.2 percent, according to the Bureau
of Labor Statistics. Nationwide, the employment of network and computer
systems administrators is expected to increase by 27 percent by 2016,
which is much faster than the average for other occupations. Such certification
programs will ensure that Northwest Florida’s workforce is able to design,
manage, upgrade and customize ever increasingly complex computer systems.
In an effort to meet these increasing demands for quality professionals
in the information technology (IT) industry, the University of West
Florida’s IT Academy provides several classes and certification opportunities
for residents of the Emerald Coast area. Such offerings include Microsoft
MCSA Security +, and the Computer Support Technician. Some scholarship
money is even available to help defray the cost of these programs.
The next course here in Fort Walton Beach, Microsoft Certified Systems
Administrator MCSA Security+ Certification (CGS 3284,) will begin February
8th and run through May 25th.
Anyone interested in this course is encouraged to submit
their applications and paperwork as soon as possible as applications
are reviewed upon receipt for scholarship consideration. For more information
on these programs, contact Nicole Gislason at 850-474-3204 or nicole@uwf.edu.
You can also find more information about classes, scholarships, and
application procedures on the IT Academy website at http://UWF.edu/ITacademy/
Best of luck to you in your endeavors.
