Introduction to Ballistics

This course provides an introduction to the field of Exterior Ballistics.

This 16-week non-credit course is taught asynchronously, but students have the option to attend the lectures live if they wish.

This course includes an overview of the forces and moments that affect balls, bullets and missiles in flight as well as an overview of simplifying ballistic models such as vacuum trajectories, differential transformations, point mass and NATO 4DOF models. An introduction to trajectory simulation and experimental techniques will also be covered. Students will also implement simple numerical simulations of ballistic motion and identify experimental methods used in ballistics. A basic understanding of ordinary differential equations is preferred.
