Naming Conventions

Buildings
Capitalize and spell out Building and Room when referring to campus buildings, and always use numerals for building numbers: Building 11, Room 219.

Centers
The names of University centers should be capitalized in all uses and preceded by University of West Florida or UWF on first reference: University of West Florida Center for Cybersecurity; UWF Military & Veterans Resource Center.

Colleges
Full names of colleges should be capitalized in all uses and preceded by University of West Florida on first reference. When only referencing one college or school at UWF, second reference and beyond can be shortened to "the college" or "the school:" The University of West Florida College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities is home to a number of undergraduate and graduate programs. Susie Smith is the dean of the college.

Do not use CASSH, COB, HMCSE or UKCOH in reference to the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities; College of Business; Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering; and Usha Kundu, MD College of Health when writing for the campus community or general public: University of West Florida Usha Kundu, MD College of Health; Usha Kundu, MD College of Health.

Departments and Offices
Capitalize when using the proper name of all departments and offices: The Department of Biology; the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Lowercase when department or office comes after the proper name: biology department; admissions office.

Semesters
When referencing a specific semester and academic year, the season should be capitalized: The Fall Semester 2020 will begin in August. The Spring 2020 athletics schedule was just released. General references to semesters should be lowercase: He will enroll for the spring semester. Seasons of the year are not capitalized: Her favorite season is summer.
