Dr. Justice Mbizo from the University of West Florida’s Department of Public Health with community partners putting public health in action—promoting breast cancer awareness through the Florida Department of Health’s initiative to reach rural communities. In May 2025, he joined community stakeholders in Northwest Florida to support mobile mammography for early detection in Walton County. Together, they’re promoting life-saving screenings in the predominantly rural regions of the state.

Each year, UWF public health students—joining in person and virtually via a live stream—connect with faculty and alumni during an orientation on the Pensacola campus to build community, exchange ideas, and prepare for a year of research and learning. Students from other disciplines interested in taking upcoming public health courses are also welcome to attend. To learn more about upcoming public health course offerings and orientation dates, email& publichealth@uwf.edu and consider joining our Student Association of Public Health.

Year after year, UWF public health students are represented on the national stage at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting & Expo—connecting with experts across academia, government, and health services, experiencing firsthand what it means to see public health in action.
Attendees in 2024 included (left to right): Jacob Sockman (MPH, 2024), Brigid Brickman (MPH, 2025), and Tre Helwig (MPH, 2025).
