Panagiotis Koutakis

Biography

Dr. Panagiotis Koutakis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health. He received his bachelor’s degree from Aristotle University, his master’s degree from the University of Omaha, and his PhD in Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area—Surgery from the University of Nebraska at Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association.

His research focuses on human clinical and preclinical trials to develop therapeutic treatments for cardiovascular disease patients. He has performed all levels of research, including in-vitro, in-vivo, and human clinical trials. He has extensive expertise on oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in different tissue types and has developed unique technologies for using miRs for therapeutic treatment. He has been continuously funded by the American Heart Association and the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Koutakis's influence extends beyond his research. As a mentor, he has guided and inspired several undergraduate and graduate students, fostering the next generation of researchers in the field of cardiovascular disease.
