Biography

Dr. Colette Davis is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health. She completed her postdoctoral training in the Epidemiology Program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington.  While training, she evaluated nutritional factors, reproductive outcomes, and cancer disparities. She also examined risk factors for reproductive conditions in case-control studies and prospective cohorts (ovarian cancer and fibroids).  Dr. Davis graduated from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky with a PHD in Public Health Sciences with an emphasis on Epidemiology. For Dr. Davis’ dissertation, she conducted a cross-sectional epidemiologic pilot study among adolescents aged 12 to 17 years residing in West Louisville, Kentucky titled the SHAPE (Survey of Health and the Perceived Environment) Study. The objective of the study was to evaluate the association between perceptions of neighborhood-built environment and overweight/obesity status as defined from body mass index.  She received her Master of Science in Public Health from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN.

Long term, Dr. Davis is interested in examining lifestyle, nutritional, behavioral, biological, and reproductive factors that contribute to the risk and outcomes of adolescents’ and women’s health among different racial/ethnic groups. Her short-term goals consist of becoming a better critical thinker, teacher, and mentor to her students. Her life’s motto is to serve the underserved, which is why she has utilized epidemiological techniques to conduct community- based participatory research and collect primary data. In her spare time, she likes to watch anime, travel, and experience cuisine from different cultures.
