Biography

Dr. Daniel Drost is assistant dean for the Usha Kundu, MD College of Health, interim chair for the Department of Public Health, and a faculty member in the Department of Movement Sciences and Health.

Drost draws from his 15 years of experience as a physical education teacher for instruction and research. Regarding research, he is primarily interested in the impact teaching behaviors, such as feedback and motivation, have on student achievement, performance and motivation.  

He is primary author for the article “Legitimate physical education: Emphasis on the education,” published in Perspectives in Learning, and the primary author and researcher for “Manipulating feedback during physical education climates: Immediate effects on motivation and skill performance,” published in the ICHPER-SD Journal of Research.  In addition to his academic research, he has presented more than 80 refereed conference presentations at international, national, and regional conferences.

Drost also utilizes his extensive physical education and sport expertise to develop professional development opportunities that help physical education teachers in Florida counties improve teaching performance. He is completing a three year tenure as the SHAPE Florida organization president and also is a club soccer coach at Bayside Dynamo Futbol Club, specializing in developing young players.  During his youth coaching career, he has coached more than 50 teams in multiple sports. 

He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and a master’s and doctorate degree from the University of West Florida, all specializing in physical education.
