Biography
Dr. John R. Todorovich, teaches physical education, sport coaching, and physical activity courses.
Todorovich’s long-term research interests focus on physical education and how achievement goal theory can be used to foster student motivation. His expertise in this area has allowed him to advise the Florida Department of Education on new physical education course requirements and develop teaching strategies to improve physical education at various Florida county schools.
His research in recent years has addressed adolescent athletes' susceptibility to thoracic and abdominal injuries. Todorovich and UWF colleagues are conducting research to determine the prevalence of these injuries among high school football players and other contact sports. This initial research will provide the foundation for future work to develop a standardized abdominal injury protocol and design an app for reporting injuries. Todorovich was principal co-investigator of a study that evaluated youth athletes’ intentions to use central body protective gear when participating in contact sports.
He has published more than 60 journal articles, book chapters and technical reports on various aspects of physical and health education. In addition to his academic writing, he has presented at international and national meetings on topics relating to physical education.
Before coming to UWF in 2005, he was an assistant professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville and University of Wyoming.
He received a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance studies, master’s degree in human performance studies, and doctorate in human performance pedagogy, all from the University of Alabama.
