Biography

Dr. Smith is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of West Florida where he also serves as the Director of Masters in Athletic Training. He received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from California State University, Chico, a Master of Science in Athletic Training and Kinesiology from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Health Sciences from University of St. Augustine for the Health Sciences.

Dr. Smith’s research interests focus on leadership and accreditation, emergent conditions, and prevention strategies in athletic training. He has worked as both a clinical athletic trainer and educator. Clinically, Dr. Smith has experience in high school, collegiate, and Olympic sports settings. He also has experience as a PRN athletic trainer covering martial arts competitions.

Dr. Smith teaches a variety of athletic training courses with areas of contemporary expertise in orthopedic evaluation, care of emergent conditions, and diagnostic imaging.

Being a certified athletic trainer since 2001, Dr. Smith is licensed in Florida and is a member of the NATA, SEATA, and ATAF. Outside of athletic training Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and watching his two sons compete in sports.
