Biography

Amy Crawley teaches Physiological Development of Strength, Aging and Physical Performance, and Nutrition courses.

She is a certified NSCA strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer, a USAW sports performance coach, a Titleist Performance Institute golf fitness instructor, and a yoga instructor. She has worked in private fitness and strength and conditioning settings for over 15 years specializing in resistance training programming for athletes and special populations.

Her research areas of interest include programming for tactical athletes, body composition of athletes, golfers, and the impact of technology in strength and conditioning settings and the classroom.

She is the primary author of the study “Physical Fitness of Police Cadets: Baseline Characteristics and Changes During a 16-week Academy” published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and recently published a study on the “Effects of a Periodized Training Program and a Traditional Military Training Program on Functional Movement and Y-Balance Tests in ROTC Cadets” in the Sports and Exercise Medicine Open Journal.

In addition to her academic research, she has presented at more than 20 international, national, and regional conferences. Her invited presentation titled “Police Academy Cadets: Methods of Fitness Testing and Training was given at the national NSCA-Tactical Strength & Conditioning Conference in Norfolk, VA. This opportunity provided a national venue in which to share the results of her research with Michigan police cadets.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha specializing in exercise science and psychology and her master’s degree health science from Grand Valley State University. She completed her doctorate in education here at the University of West Florida.
