Biography

My name is Dr. Jerry Smith.  I joined the faculty of UWF in August 2024.  I am originally from Alabama and have lived in Florida for the past 28 years.  I hold my Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degrees from Auburn University. I completed a Clinical Pharmacy Fellowship in Family Medicine at the University of Florida and earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration degree from the University of Maryland Global College. I practiced as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) and Consultant Pharmacist for over 30 years with over 20 of those years in a formal leadership role.

Locally, I served for 19 years with Ascension Sacred Heart, including serving as a Regional Director of Pharmacy, where I lead 5 acute care pharmacies and 3 oncology infusion pharmacies with over 200 total associates practicing in those locations. While most of my experience is in acute care (hospital), I have practiced in ambulatory care, retail pharmacy, in the Veterans' Administration, and in academia as an adjunct professor primarily for Auburn University, the University of Florida, and Samford University Colleges of Pharmacy.  I also serve on the Dean's Leadership Council for Auburn's Harrison College of Pharmacy, and I am a member of Northeast Pensacola Sertoma.  

I am married to a UWF Alumna and my daughter is currently a student here at UWF.  We have 3 rescue dogs - Barley and Hops, who appear to be some sort of shih tzu mixes we found in a bowling alley parking lot, and Whiskey, a Pyredoodle, who we rescued with an Anatolian Shepherd named Rye.  Rye was rehomed to my in-laws, as they needed a special dog for caring after losing their sweet lab, Jack. In my spare time, I enjoy boating, fishing, scuba diving, league bowling, brewing beer, traveling, meeting with my Mardi Gras Krewes, and attending Auburn sporting events - War Eagle!
