Aldo Tinoco

Professor Aldo Tinoco is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice in the Department of Health Administration and Science at the University of West Florida. His work sits at the intersection of health care, informatics, quality improvement, and organizational decision-making. He is particularly interested in how people engage with information, technology, and evidence to make better decisions and improve how health care is delivered.

Professor Tinoco brings more than two decades of experience across health care delivery, health information technology, quality measurement, and the federal government. Throughout this journey, he has worked on a recurring challenge: helping people and organizations apply the right information to solve gnarly problems in health care services.

He has developed clinical technology solutions, contributed to national approaches to assessing health care quality, advised health care leaders, and led clinical informatics programs. Most recently, he led national initiatives at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs focused on the development and evaluation of the health informatics workforce across the Veterans Health Administration. Nearby, he maintains an active, part-time physician practice at clinics in Pensacola, Mary Esther, and Lynn Haven.

At UWF, Professor Tinoco brings those experiences into the classroom with an emphasis on situations students will encounter as health care professionals and leaders. His teaching interests include health informatics, health care quality improvement, evaluation of health care operations, executive decision-making, and workforce development. He is here to helping students learn about proven methods and tools, and how to apply them to ambiguous, in vivo problems.

Professor Tinoco earned earned a Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University, a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Utah, and Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of Miami - Coral Gables. He is board certified in Clinical Informatics and in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health and licensed to practice in three US states.

Pensacola is more than where he works—it has been home since 2022. Outside the university, he enjoys paddleboarding, skating, cycling, and other human-powered ways in which he and his family stay actively connected with the outdoors. You can find him frequently on YouTube watching something about a new skill or technique to try on for size. He appreciates the community, coastline, and relationships that have made Pensacola an important part of his personal story.
