Your SGA Members
The Student Government Association, or SGA, represents the interests of UWF students and works to improve the overall student experience. Through advocacy, legislation, funding decisions, campus initiatives, and student outreach, SGA gives students a voice in matters that affect academic and campus life.
There are several ways students can become involved in SGA, including serving in the Legislative Branch, Judicial Branch, Senate or Freshman Committee.

Legislative Branch
The Legislative Branch is the representative body of the Student Government Association. It is made up of the Student Senate and three standing committees that work together to advocate for students, review legislation, allocate funding and improve campus life.
The Senate meets bi-weekly to consider legislation, funding requests and initiatives that impact the UWF student experience.
Student Senate
The Student Senate is composed of students elected to represent each academic college. Senators serve as the voice of their constituents by listening to student concerns, proposing solutions, and helping shape decisions that affect the university community.
Every senator serves on one of three legislative committees:
- Budget & Allocations Committee–Oversees Activity & Service Fee funding and student grant requests.
- Student Affairs Committee–Enhances student life through advocacy, outreach and campus initiatives.
- University Affairs Committee–Promotes academic excellence by addressing student academic concerns, reviewing academic policies, and recognizing outstanding faculty and staff.
As a Senator, you will:
- Represent students within your academic college
- Advocate for student needs and concerns
- Vote on legislation and funding requests
- Collaborate with university leaders and fellow senators
- Develop leadership, communication and professional skills
Judicial Branch
The Judicial Branch serves as the governing legal body of SGA. It helps ensure that SGA operates fairly and consistently according to its constitution, statutes, policies, and procedures.
The Judicial Branch may review questions involving SGA governing documents, elections, internal processes, and other matters requiring interpretation or resolution.
Students interested in fairness, policy, mediation, legal processes, or organizational accountability may find the Judicial Branch to be a strong leadership opportunity.
Freshman Committee
The SGA Freshman Committee provides first-year students with an introduction to student leadership, campus involvement, and student government.
Freshman Committee members work together to represent the first-year student experience while learning how SGA serves the university community.
Members may:
- Gather feedback from first-year students
- Plan events and special projects
- Share first-year student concerns at SGA meetings
- Learn about advocacy, legislation, and campus governance
- Build connections with student leaders and university administrators
- Develop skills that prepare them for future leadership roles
No previous SGA experience is required. Students only need an interest in becoming involved and making a positive difference at UWF.
