Biography
Mrs. Jan Palmer Cudd served as an educator in the Mobile and Baldwin County School Systems in Alabama for 37 years. She has contributed to education as a regular classroom teacher, special education teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Her final position in public education was as principal of Daphne Elementary School, where she served from 1997 to 2012. She held Alabama teaching certificates in elementary education, special education, and administration.
Mrs. Cudd has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the Alabama Association of Elementary School Principals, the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the Parent/Teacher Association at the local, state, and national levels. She is also a current member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization for women educators.
Within Alpha Delta Kappa, Mrs. Cudd has held numerous state leadership positions, including state sergeant-at-arms, state president-elect, state president, and past state president. She currently serves on the organization’s state advisory council. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors for the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools and on the executive board for the Alabama Association of Elementary School Principals, where she has also held the offices of state vice president, president-elect, and president.
Mrs. Cudd began her work in higher education in 2012 when she joined the TeacherReady program. Throughout her tenure, she has served in multiple capacities and currently serves as an Instructor and Progression Specialist. She believes that student success depends on maintaining high expectations and that children learn best in environments shaped by developmentally appropriate practices that prepare them for a fast-changing and complex world.
