Kappa Delta Pi: Omicron Delta Chapter
Join a legacy of excellence in education with Kappa Delta Pi, Omicron Delta Chapter.
Our History and Vision
On March 8, 1911, a bold vision for excellence in education took shape at the University of Illinois. Dr. William Bagley and a group of forward-thinking educators founded Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an honor society with a mission that would shape the future of the profession.
At a time when other educational societies excluded many qualified individuals—openly denying membership based on gender—KDP made a different choice. From the beginning, we recognized the value of outstanding educators from all walks of life and opened our doors to all who demonstrated a commitment to teaching and learning.
Our founding belief was both simple and transformative: to celebrate and support exceptional educators, no matter their path. That principle continues to guide us more than a century later.
Our Mission
KDP inspires and equips teachers to thrive.
