Biography
Dr. Glaucio H.S. de Carvalho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at the University of West Florida. As an experiential learning-focused educator, he integrates hands-on activities into his teaching to prepare students for practical challenges in the field. He enjoys ethical hacking, designing defense systems that proactively protect complex networks, and applying advanced analytics to understand and address the complexities of cybersecurity.
His research explores the security, privacy, and dependability of intelligent critical infrastructure systems, including 5G/6G networks, intelligent transportation systems, and the Internet of Things, with a particular focus on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). His work applies AI to enhance cybersecurity—developing intelligent tools for threat detection, intrusion prevention, and resilient system architectures—while also investigating the security and trustworthiness of AI systems themselves, with a focus on critical infrastructure where AI failures could have national or societal impacts.
Dr. Carvalho has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and has received Best Paper Awards at the International Joint Workshop on Federated Learning for Data Mining and Graph Analytics (FedKDD), 2025, and the IEEE International Conference on Communications, Computing, Cybersecurity, and Informatics (CCCI), 2020. He is an ACM member and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
