Spirit of UWF Alumni and Community Award Details

The University of West Florida recognizes those who make a difference at UWF and in their communities through the Spirit of UWF Alumni and Community Awards. These awards are given in recognition of those who work to contribute to the university, improve their communities and promote the Alumni Association representing more than 95,000 UWF alumni. Those eligible for nomination include alumni, businesses, organizations, agencies and individuals, along with UWF administrators, staff, faculty and students. These awards are presented in collaboration with the UWF Alumni Association and the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement. 

Nominations closed on May 30, 2023.

Awards Open For Nominations

The following awards will be awarded on October 6, 2023 at the Spirit of UWF Alumni and Community Awards Luncheon.

An award presented for significant contributions, sustained leadership and service to the University of West Florida in the areas of academics, administration, student relations or university advancement. Significant contributions may include that of time, money, professional leadership and expertise, or other areas having a direct and positive influence on UWF.

Award Details and Criteria

  • The recipient may be an alumni or community member.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required.
  • One individual and one organization may receive this award per year.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Alumni Association.

Award presented for significant achievements and/or leadership demonstrated by the recipient in their chosen field of interest or career. This achievement may include personal or professional endeavors and/or accomplishments, and recognition is not determined by service rendered to the University of West Florida or to the Alumni Association.

Award Details and Criteria

  • The recipient should be an alumni.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • An alumni may only receive this award once in their lifetime. 
  • This award is presented by the UWF Alumni Association.

*Please note as of April 4, 2023, only one (1) letter of recommendation is required for this award nomination. This was reduced from two (2) letters. The letter must be written by someone other than the nominator.

Award presented for making significant contributions to their field of endeavor and/or displaying outstanding community service early on in their career. The candidate will have developed imaginative methods and programs, displayed leadership and development of leadership in others, and will have established strong professional relationships. Primary evaluation of accomplishments should highlight contributions of recent years.

Award Details and Criteria

  • Nominee must be 39 years old or younger at time of nomination (May 30, 2023).
  • The recipient should be an alumni.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • An alumni may only receive this award once in their lifetime.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Alumni Association.

Award presented to alumni who have contributed to the inclusion of people and groups in their communities or industries. Areas of achievement could include advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a particular field of work that has a direct impact on customers/constituents of the field (health care, education, law, etc.) or engaging in work, activities, or initiatives that have contributed to raising awareness about diversity and inclusion for the greater good of the community.

  • The recipient should be an alumni.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • An alumni may only receive this award once in their lifetime. 
  • This award is presented by the UWF Alumni Association.

Award presented for achievements and/or leadership demonstrated by the recipient within UWF and the community. This achievement may include personal or professional endeavors and/or accomplishments. This award will recognize alumni with significant service to the University of West Florida and/or to the UWF Alumni Association.

Award Details and Criteria

  • The recipient must be an alumni.
  • Up to two awards will be given. 
  • This award is presented by the UWF Alumni Association.

Awarded to an external company, organization, agency, or individual that has partnered with UWF to engage in community-based research successfully addressing an identified community need.

Award Details and Criteria

  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

Awarded to an external company, organization, agency, or individual that has partnered with UWF for the purposes of recruiting, training, or mentoring UWF students or alumni.

Award Details and Criteria

  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

 

Awarded to an external company, organization, agency, or individual that has partnered with UWF in delivering excellence in service-learning, community outreach, or continuing education. 

Award Details and Criteria

  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

Awarded to an external company, organization, agency, or individual that has partnered with UWF to deliver a significant impact in the community in the fields of arts, health, leisure, or the environment.

Award Details and Criteria

  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

Awarded to a UWF administrator, staff, or faculty member who has made a significant impact in the community through their teaching.

Award Details and Criteria

  • Award winner must be employed by UWF at the time of the awards presentation on October 6, 2023.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

 

Awarded to a UWF administrator, staff, or faculty member who has made a significant impact in the community through excellence in innovative community engagement.

Award Details and Criteria

  • Award winner must be employed by UWF at the time of the awards presentation on October 6, 2023.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

 

Awarded to a UWF student for outstanding contribution in community service, community based research or advocacy.

Award Details and Criteria

  • Award winner must be a current UWF student at the time of the awards presentation on October 6, 2023. However, the selection committee may choose a recent graduate (Spring or Summer 2023) at their discretion.
  • One letter of recommendation is required.
  • This award is presented by the UWF Office of Career Development and Community Engagement.

 

All are encouraged to submit nominations, but self-nominations will not be accepted. Please note that some awards have certain criteria or require letters of recommendation. Nominations leaving off required information may be disqualified. The Alumni Awards Selection Committee will review and select recipients for all Alumni Awards. The Community Engagement Coordinating Committee will review and select recipients for all Faculty/Staff and Community Awards. The committees reserve the right to change the category of the nomination based on the information submitted.
