Celebrating 30 Years of Lifelong Learning with UWF Leisure Learning
July 27, 2026 | Lisa Gibbs

In 2026, we proudly celebrate the 30-year milestone of the University of West Florida Leisure Learning program, a community built on curiosity, connection and the joy of learning. Over the past three decades, UWF Leisure Learning has welcomed adults seeking to explore new ideas, stay active and engage with others who share a passion for lifelong education. What began as a small collection of classes has grown into a signature Continuing Education program that enriches lives across Northwest Florida.
Over the years, UWF Leisure Learning has offered a remarkable variety of experiences that reflect the passion for learning and innovation of its members. One day, you might find yourself captivated by a lecture on Pensacola’s rich local history, and the next, exploring the city through a guided tour of its most iconic landmarks and thriving local businesses. Along the way, members often uncover new passions through classes in art, science, literature or wellness, discovering talents and interests they never knew they had. Each experience acts as an invitation to grow, connect and be inspired. The program’s success stems from its ability to evolve while staying true to its purpose—to provide engaging, educational opportunities that spark joy, encourage connections and strengthen community ties. UWF Leisure Learning has grown into a vibrant network of over 480 members who bring wisdom and smiles to every classroom and experience.
“Leisure Learning is my favorite activity, and it is perfect for my never-ending curiosity. A priceless program for older adults,” shared Shirley Tipton, a UWF Leisure Learning member. Reflecting on the impact the program has had on her life, she added, “I plan to continue being a Leisure Learning student as long as possible. I never want to stop learning.”
As we celebrate this tricennial milestone, we recognize all the individuals who have helped make it all possible. To our instructors who share their knowledge so generously, our members who fill each session with energy and enthusiasm and our team who ensures every detail runs smoothly, we are deeply grateful. Looking into the future, UWF Leisure Learning remains committed to inspiring personal growth and lifelong discovery through learning and friendship. The next 30 years promise new opportunities to explore, connect and celebrate the power of lifelong learning.
Julie Still-Rolin, director of UWF Leisure Learning, has seen firsthand the passion and connection that have shaped the program over the years. “I am constantly inspired by the passion and connection that have defined this program,” she said. “It's an honor to celebrate this milestone alongside our members, instructors, volunteers and supporters.”
