Biography

Dr. Jana Burch teaches in the Department of Business Administration. She earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, with a minor concentration in marketing. She also holds a master’s degree in educational psychology (gifted education and talent development) from the University of Connecticut in Storrs and a BA in education from Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia.

Dr. Burch has been honored in the areas of research, scholarship and teaching. A meta-analysis she co-authored on experiential learning outcomes recently received the top award for empirical papers from the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education. She researches in the areas of creativity and innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, student engagement, and education.

Dr. Burch is dedicated to lifelong learning and is involved in historic research and preservation. She and her husband, Dr. Jerry Burch, recently renovated their 1846 home which has been in her family since 1852. 

Along with teaching, Dr. Burch is active in public service. She currently serves as a county chair for the historical marker program for the Texas Historical Commission, as president of the Col. Joseph L. Bennett Chapter – Daughters of the Republic of Texas, as well as an officer on various local community boards.  

Currently, she uses real-world experiences and educational best practices in her classroom where she teaches courses in business communications, ethics, management, and entrepreneurship and creativity.
