Advising

The one-stop location for all of your advising needs.

Purpose

The role of academic advising in the College of Business is a critical component of its students’ educational experiences. The purpose is to guide students to become self-directed learners and sound decision-makers by encouraging them to embrace personal responsibility for learning and take ownership of their education through a shared partnership between the academic advisor and student. In this process, advisors and students will share the responsibility to develop and implement realistic educational plans that are compatible with their professional goals and personal aspirations. Academic advisors incorporate strategies endorsed by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), of which each advisor is a member. Academic advisors support students in making a successful transition to the College of Business either from UWF’s First Year Advising Center or another institution of higher learning. Academic advisors are committed to quality advising in an environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of the educational, professional, and personal development of each student.

Collectively, the mission, values and vision statements guide strategy development and inform the goals and objectives set to determine whether the strategy is on track.
