The University of West Florida and Florida State University College of Law announced that they are partnering to offer a 3+3 program that will allow aspiring attorneys to reduce the time they spend working toward a law degree.

3+3 Program

The 3+3 Program allows high-performing UWF students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a juris doctor degree in six years by allowing their first year of full-time course work in the J.D. Program at FSU College of Law to also serve as the final year of study at UWF.

The UWF Pre-Law Advisory Committee will screen applicants to determine whether they meet the basic eligibility requirements and advise eligible students who declare an intention to apply to FSU College of Law under the 3+3 Program.

To be eligible for the program, a UWF undergraduate student must:

  • Provide notice to the Pre-Law Advisory Committee of Intent to apply for the program on or before Sept. 1 of the year prior to the intended enrollment date at FSU College of Law.
  • Complete at least 25 percent of the total credits for the bachelor’s degree at UWF.
  • Be degree-seeking at UWF until enrollment at FSU College of Law, at which point the student should have completed all degree requirements for a bachelor’s degree except elective credits. UWF will accept credit earned at FSU as transfer credit after the student has been enrolled for one year at FSU College of Law.
  • Complete all general education requirements and all other requirements for the student’s major before enrolling in FSU College of Law.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 in courses taken at UWF as of the date of application to FSU College of Law.
  • Have no more than 30 credits remaining to complete the UWF bachelor’s degree before matriculating at FSU College of Law.

FSU College of Law will notify applicants by June 1 of its admissions decisions. Enrollment of admitted students to FSU College of Law will be contingent upon their completion of all UWF baccalaureate program requirements for the student’s chosen major at UWF.

Upon completion of the first year of study at FSU College of Law, the student will be awarded a bachelor’s degree by UWF if he or she meets all UWF requirements for graduation. Upon completion of the program of study at FSU College of Law, the student will receive a J.D. awarded by FSU College of Law.
