Admissions sat down with April to learn a little more about who she is and what she loves about UWF. Hear from her perspective to learn more about UWF.

    About April

April is from Tallahassee, but moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida when she was thirteen. She earned her AA degree from NWF State College then transferred to UWF to major in Education. April loves to read, foster cats, and attend science fiction conventions and Renaissance festivals.

What's the best part of your job?

I love that I get to help students make the same transition I did - from college to university - and love knowing that with the 2UWF program the process will be easier and less stressful as I can provide support and scaffolding. I had no idea what I was doing when I transferred, so it means a lot to me that I can be there for students who, like me, might also be nervous about making the next step. I love learning about everyone's interests and goals and dreams and then seeing them move into the next phase of achieving those dreams. I get to do a lot of celebrating and high-fives. I also love my coworkers on the Pensacola campus and how we all work together to help students.

What's the best thing about UWF?

It's hard to pick one best thing because I am a proud alumni. I think maybe it's that people really care for each other. Faculty and staff care about the students, care about their work, care about education, care about the school, care about the community. Everything stems from that, which leads to great classes, great experience, great learning, great support, great everything. That was my experience.

Why did you come to UWF?

I wanted a school that was close to home and one that would provide a strong, accredited program without feeling lost in a crowd of students.

What's your favorite spot on campus?

On the Pensacola campus my favorite spot on campus is either the art gallery or the nature trail. I spend more time on the Emerald Coast campus in Fort Walton Beach and love looking at the flowers floating in the pond when you first arrive on campus. It's so beautiful and calming.

    What makes Pensacola special?

The entire Emerald Coast from Destin to Pensacola is stunning. Pensacola itself has so many things to do, including Pensacon, Maker Faires, museums, music, sports, plays, Gallery Nights. There are also escape rooms, movie theaters, great food, and an actual functioning mall. It's a big city, but I don't feel lost there.

What can students expect at UWF?

Students can expect to go beyond the classroom. The University makes sure to include experiential learning in addition to the typical classroom structure. They can also expect a sense of community.

What are the top questions you get asked about UWF?

I often get asked which programs are available in Fort Walton Beach at the Emerald Coast campus versus which are only on the Pensacola campus. Other common questions are "Will my classes transfer?" and "What do I need to take before I transfer?"
