Levin Scholars

The Levin Scholars Program is an invitation-only leadership development and community engagement-focused program for which eligible incoming freshmen are invited to apply.

How to apply

  1. Application invitations for the Levin Scholars Program and Scholarship will be sent to eligible students’ UWF email addresses from January through March. The deadline to apply is April 1.
  2. Students who receive an invitation must apply by submitting all application materials:
    1. Essay response to prompts
    2. Recommendation form completed by academic reference 
    3. Recommendation form completed by a supervisor
    4. Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    5. ePortfolio of curricular and extracurricular accomplishments
    6. Purpose statement
  3. Please note that the application process includes a mandatory on-campus interview and campus tour for students selected to be finalists.
 
Eligibility Requirements
  • Students accepted into the University of West Florida as freshmen are invited to apply for the program and scholarship.
  • Applicants must have at least a 3.9 core GPA in high school.

Priority Registration

Levin Scholars are among the first to register for classes each semester through a process called Priority Registration. Being among a small number of undergraduates able to register ahead of their peers means Levin Scholars are more likely to get seats in the classes they want.

Living Learning Community Eligibility

Levin Scholars are eligible to join the living learning community (LLC) in Pace Hall with other high-achieving students. This LLC fosters an inclusive, close-knit community for UWF’s most academically ambitious students.

Financial Support

Eligible students receive $20,000 in scholarship support over the course of the four-year program. The Levin Scholars Program scholarship is compatible with other scholarships that high-performing students may receive. The scholarship is renewable annually if students meet all renewal requirements criteria.

Internship Experience and Career Readiness

Levin Scholars have opportunities to participate in executive mentorship and apply their knowledge to the real world through internship experience and tailored service opportunities.

Year 1
  • 5,000 scholarship
  • Residence in the Levin Scholars living-learning community in Pace Hall
  • Required course: IDH 1050: Foundations of Leadership (3sh)
  • Leadership retreat
  • Participation in Levin Scholars Program events and activities 
  • 25 hours of community service
Year 2*
  • $5,000 Scholarship
  • Required course: IDH 1051 Experiential Learning and Service
  • Participation in LSP events and activities
  • Site visits with local and regional community leaders
  • Development of internship proposal
  • 25 hours of community service
Year 3*
  • $5,000 scholarship
  • One-on-one mentorship by faculty and/or professional leaders
  • Site-based community internship (10-20 hours/week)
  • ePortfolio
  • Opportunities to mentor new Levin Scholars 
  • Development and presentation of senior capstone project
  • 25 hours of community service
Year 4*
  • $5,000 Scholarship
  • Required course: IDH 4980: Leadership and Service Capstone
  • Completion of senior capstone project 
  • Presentation of capstone project outcomes 
  • Levin Scholars graduation celebration
*Renewal Requirements
  • A 3.0 cumulative UWF GPA is required for renewal.
  • Renewable UWF scholarships require continuous, full-time enrollment of 12+ credit hours, excluding summer, at UWF with good academic standing. 
  • All Levin Scholars Program awards are applicable for eight consecutive semesters (fall and spring only) or upon undergraduate degree completion, whichever comes first, so long as renewal requirements are maintained.
