Dr. Alexis Janosik

Biography

Dr. Janosik’s research focuses on using molecular tools to study marine ecology and evolution in the Gulf Region. Her work includes environmental DNA, DNA metabarcoding, bioinformatics, population genetics, and microplastics. Since becoming an Assistant Professor at UWF in 2015, she has mentored over 60 undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers, and some of whom have gone on to pursue advanced scientific careers. Dr. Janosik has several federally and state-funded projects, fosters collaborations across disciplines, and is dedicated to engaging students from diverse backgrounds. She also teaches courses for majors, non-majors, and the Honors Core program course on Humans and the Biosphere.
