Mission
The mission of the Learning Sciences Institute is to improve learning through innovative and transformative learning environments designed through an interdisciplinary approach grounded in theories of learning, cognitive science, and instructional design. The institute serves students, faculty, and community partners from diverse subject area disciplines with the aim to advance learning through applied research and practice.
A wide variety of technologies and software platforms empower the institute to pursue its mission, enabling the creation and integration of virtual reality, augmented reality, simulation, and artificial intelligence-enhanced learning experiences systematically designed to achieve desired learning outcomes.
Alignment with University Goals
The Learning Sciences Institute aligns with the UWF Mission, Values, and Strategic Directions. Specifically, the institute aligns with Strategic Goals 1.1, 1.3, 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, and 7.1 as described below:
Goal 1.1 Provide high-impact educational and co-curricular learning experiences that inspire, engage, and prepare students to become knowledgeable citizens and successful in their careers and lives.

Faculty will be equipped to offer technology-enhanced immersive learning experiences for students, cost-effectively and efficiently, for programs of strategic emphasis university-wide.
Goal 4.1: Enhance the region’s educational opportunities, economic development, health, and environmental sustainability.
The institute will extend learning opportunities for students, faculty, and community partners beyond the traditional classroom through innovative and engaging learning experiences.
Goal 7.1: Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment for employees, students, visitors, and service partners.
