The B.A. degree program in Social Work, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, prepares students to enter beginning professional social work practice. The minor in Aging Studies provides an interdisciplinary program of courses designed to provide the student with a broad orientation to the field of aging. The Minor in Aging Studies courses are: (1) SOW4643 Aging in Today's Society; (2) SOW4647/5641 Treatment and Care of the Elderly; (3) PEP4113 Aging and Physical Performance; and one choice from the approved electives HSA4110 Health Care Policy and Administration; HSC4120 Consumer Health Education; PLA3600 Probate and Estate Planning; PLA4453 Consumer Rights; SOW4682 Dimensions of Death and Dying; DEP4401 Adulthood and Aging; SOW4645 Substance Abuse and Elderly. In addition, Social Work majors may request Field Instruction in an agency dealing with services to the elderly. This minor is available to all students.
