The University of West Florida, Office of Human Resources, has contacted several local insurance agencies to find an insurance product that would be beneficial and affordable for Other Personal Services (OPS) employees. OPS employees are temporary employees paid out of OPS funds. This group of employees are not eligible under State law to participate in the State insurance group programs.
The health insurance plans that are available are called Individual Plans. The employee pays the full cost of the insurance and may select what type deductible is desired, as well the method and frequency of payments. Insurance may be purchased to cover the employee and the employee’s family members.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida offers a Preferred Patient Care Plan. The Preferred Patient Care Plan includes physicians and hospitals throughout the country who have agreed to charge a reduced rate for services. In Pensacola, all major hospitals participate as Preferred Patient Care Facilities. By using these participants, the employees' out-of-pocket costs are greatly reduced. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida participants have world wide coverage available to them and are not required to use the Preferred Patient Care option.
If you are looking for health insurance for only a short period of time you may request that you be written what is called a "temporary" policy. The premiums will be less for this type policy. Those who may be interested in this type of policy are those who have had insurance and may be going into a position that offers benefits within three to six months.
